Nestled in the Al Hajar mountain range of Oman, the Alila Jabal Akhdar is located at an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level. The journey up from the country’s capital, Muscat, can only be made with vehicles with 4×4 capabilities, adding to the adventure of the location. The destination, though, is well worth it – for when you arrive, the breathtaking views will leave you speechless.
The exterior architecture
The structures on the property are clad in cobbled stone, all colors blending into the surrounding valleys. It truly gives the feeling of being of the earth.
Suite interior design
The rooms at the Alila Jabal Akhdar are spacious and well-appointed, beautifully designed and traditional Omani architecture.
Each room features a private balcony or terrace with panoramic views. This was the view from our balcony. (It was a moment we felt humbled in front of God’s creation)
The bathroom in our suite, however, was my favorite part of the interior. Chiseled limestone on the walls and on the floors beneath your feet feels ethereal and grounding at the same time.
And of course, a luxurious limestone soaking tub carved of stone with views out to the mountains.
Breathtaking resort areas & amenities
Outside of the dreamy suites, the resort features a range of facilities, including a beautiful infinity pool, a serene indoor pool, a spa offering many treatments, and a fitness center.
While we were there, there were scheduled free activities like star watching and yoga, as well as activities you could pay for including hikes, treks, and climbing in the surrounding mountains. We were happy enough to follow the light trails around the fenced property.
The nature outdoors and Omani culture, tempered with modernity gave for some special moments in the interior of the public spaces on the property.
How we booked our stay at the Alila Jabal Akhdar:
We used one of our favorites, the Amex Platinum. I will admit, I did not know how magical our stay would be when I was searching through Amex’s Fine Hotels and Resorts Collection throughout Oman, but I am so happy this card led us here.
At the time, on top of the benefits of booking with Amex’s FHR which include:
- Free breakfast for two daily
- A $100 USD credit for use at any restaurant or room service
- Late checkout
- Room upgrades when available
We had been offered a $200 credit for the FHR collection as well as a $200 travel credit. We booked the smallest suite at a rate of $500/night for a net price of $100 and were upgraded to a sunset balcony room valued at $1200 the same night. The upgrade, free breakfast, welcome snacks, and restaurant credit were all thanks to the Amex Platinum FHR Collection benefits. You can check it out here.
Now that we’ve been there once, we can’t wait to go back.
